This Christmas, add a Scandinavian holiday tradition to your home. In Sweden and Norway, Julenisse doesn’t come down the chimney at night, but through the front door. After eating a Christmas bowl of porridge on Christmas Eve, he delivers the presents directly to the children, usually leaving them at the foot of their beds. During the winter, he also takes care of a farmer's home and children and protecting them from misfortune during the night. In Norway, Julinesse is also the unofficial Ambassador of Peace!

Julinesse is hand knit and stuffed to sit on your mantle, as a special decoration to your table or add ribbon and hang him on the tree. He sits about 7 inches tall.

Due to the fuzzy beard, Julinesse would not be appropriate as a toy for children who still put things in their mouth. Hand wash in cool water and allow to air dry.

Little Bo Sheep is made from a luxury mohair blended yarn that is incredibly soft. She stands 10 inches and should not be given as a toy for children under that age of 3 or who put toys in their mouth. The peeps are made from a boucle yarn that is also very fuzzy and soft!

This set was actually created for a customer, but I learned so much in the process and had a blast created removable clothing for the animals. I created a reindeer and mouse that was similar to the bunny doll. Each doll has its own miniature friend and the clothes are interchangable. What fun!

These adorable snowmen have been hand crocheted in sparkly white yarn and are decked out with hand knit hats and scarves. They make adorable Christmas tree or table decorations. Each person in my family is receiving their own snowman cutie this year as a place setting for Christmas dinner.

You receive a set of three, each with its own adorable winter outfit. Add some simple twigs for arms if you wish for an extra rustic touch! The snow cuties measure about 5 inches tall and are light enough to hang on your tree.

If you would like different colors for the hats and scarves, please let me know. I would be happy to create a custom order just for you. Everyone looks beautiful in pink! Thick Cables and twisted rib stitch gives this beautiful cowl its lavish drape. Cowls make a huge fashion statement this year and are more versatile than a scarf. You can use it to dress up your winter wardrobe while keeping you wrapped in warmth. Wear it in the chilly office or over your coat for added warmth. This cowl was adapted from a knit that I saw in Vogue Knitting, Holiday 2009 issue, so you can be sure it’s in style!

The cowl was created from high-end superwash wool that is very soft and it is all hand knit. Although you can machine wash in cool water, gentle cycle, protect this investment by hand washing and allow to air dry. It measures 18 inches long and 36 inches in circumference, which can stretch a couple of additional inches.

Willa Bear stands about 17 inches and is very tightly crocheted. The yarn is very soft acrylic and the bear should be hand washed and air dried to keep her looking her best. Willa's features are embroidered using black yarn, so there is no choking hazard. I added a lace bow, which can be removed.

Willa passed the "niece" test. My niece is 5 years old and has now demanded a bear of her own using the exact same color yarn.

Wild hair, controlled with a crocheted bow, beautiful big blue eyes and a frilly crocheted skirt makes these dollies all girl! The soft and cuddly little dolls stand about 7 inches tall and due to the hand knitting and felting process, every doll is unique.

The 2 dollies in the pictures are samples for your custom dolly. You are able to use your imagination and create a doll just for your little girl. When my niece was a little we used to love to have tea parties. I still love to brew a pot of tea in the afternoons as I’m working on my next project. For years, I have searched for just the right tea cozy that would be unique and an adorable centerpiece when my teapot was not in use. I found it!!!

I made one for my niece in colors to match her kitchen; she says that it brings back such nice memories of our girl time together. I made another one just for you! If you prefer a custom color, please let me know; it takes about a week to create one.

I lovingly knit this tea cozy in a smoke free home. It will fit a small pot that is 2 to 2 ½ pints (about 32 - 40oz.). It is made in one piece with the little mouse sewn on the top. (Ah, what a great place to snooze- on top of a warm teapot!)

The tea cozy will fit a pot that measures at least 5 inches tall and about 14 inches in circumference. It will stretch a bit. The little mouse on top makes the cozy a total of 9 inches high. Although the cozy is made from acrylic worsted weight yarn, which can be machine-washed, your little cozy should be hand-washed and air-dried to keep the mouse looking his best.

The china set shown in the picture is not included. They will give you an idea as to the size of the cozy.

I love to knit socks and toys, so I decided to combine my two favorite things. Meet Pooch who is created like a sock and then sewn to create a toy. What fun!

Pooch is absolutely baby safe and would make a wonderful addition to a baby shower present. Pooch’s head and body is knit in one piece with the arms and ears tightly sewn on the body. The eyes and nose are embroidered so will not present a choking hazard.

Meet Lovable Katie’s brother, Duke. Duke is the second in the series of my Lovable Dolls.

Duke keeps warm in his Fairisle turtleneck sweater and sporty cap. His cap is sewn on and does not present a choking hazard. Duke is 12 inches tall and not too firmly stuffed, which makes him soft and very sqeezeable.

Duke should be hand-washed and air-dried to keep him looking as handsome.

Cocoa Cones Part 2

If you plan to make these, I have some tips for you.

Makes about 16 cones: Each cone yields about 4 cups of cocoa
 18.5 oz can of Nestle Hot Cocoa Mix
 4 bags Hershey Milk Chocolate Chips
 2 bags Kraft miniature marshmallows
 17- 12 inch Disposable Decorating bags

Ingredients: For each cone:
1- 12 inch Disposable Decorating bag
2/3 cup of hot cocoa mix
½ cup mini marshmallows (or 1 handful)
Sprinkle the top with lots of chocolate chips
Twist the bag and secure with small rubber band

Here are some tips:
1. To keep the bag clean when pouring in the cocoa mix, cut 1 plastic bag at the bottom, insert in a clean bag and pour the mix in the cut bag. As the mix starts to flow, carefully lift the cut bag out of the clean bag. The mix will flow through and not make the sides look “dirty”.
2. Do not attempt this project with children or you will not have any chocolate chips or marshmallows
3. Tie the bag with little rubber bands to keep tight.
4. May be less expensive to purchase the cones already mixed at a specialty shop!

Hot Chocolate Cones

Each year I try and make a small gift for each member of the family. My dad has a family get-together on Christmas morning and I always try and give something to everyone- not a small feat- our number to date is 45 and still adding!

Last year everyone received a tiny knitted stocking for the tree with a candy cane inside. The year before I made a train with lifesavers and other kinds of candy.

This year I was making samll knitted ornament balls, but I think I will run out of time before making all of them.

Sooooooo- I have decided to make Hot Chocolate cones. Tonight I went shopping for the ingredients...OH MY!!! I have decided that next year, I'll give everyone a wrapped 10 dollar bill!!! Stay tuned.

A customer saw my girly bear on etsy and wanted 6 with their names embroidered on the foot. I didn’t realize that they would soon be international as they were shipped to Hong Kong! How cool is that?

They were fun to knit, and I love the Oh My yarn- it is SOOOOOO soft and a joy to knit- I did use a smaller needle so the stitiches would be tight.

Wrap yourself in comfort and luxury. Using very soft acrylic yarn, the gloves are buttery soft against the skin and very warm. The cabled design runs along the back of the glove while the front as a plain stocking knit stitch on the palm.

The cabled neckwarmer has the same design as the gloves with more chunky warm cables knitted throughout. The neckwarmer has a button loop on the side and a snowflake button. You can wear it as a scarf on your shoulders or high up around the neck, buttoning it to keep it tight.

The gloves begin and end in a rib stitch, which conforms to the arm and keeps them from sliding. The gloves measure 10 ½ inches long and are 4 inches wide. The scarf is 33 inches long and 6 inches wide.

It’s a scarf! It’s warm! It’s math! It’s a Möbius design! As a result of the half twist, the Möbius has only one side and one edge!

My best friend is a math teacher and her students have always been fascinated by the Möbius phenomenon. They make theirs using paper. I made hers using wool. She loves it and it keeps her warm in the chilly classroom.

This cowl is made from cream colored wool to match any outfit and its lace design has no right or wrong side. Have fun wearing this one!

Many years ago, I made these crocheted bears for my son. They would always make him giggle, hence the name- Giggle Bear. He was never without one of his giggle bears and they kept him company on those long nights when he transferred over to his “Big Boy” bed.

I revised the pattern to make the giggle bears bigger and now I can take advantage of the colorful yarns that are available today. As I was making them, I kept smiling thinking of those fond memories when he was a baby and a little boy.

The bears stand about10 inches tall. The features are hand embroidered so there are no loose parts. Remove the crocheted tie if given to a child under the age of 5. The bears are tightly crocheted and the arms are very tightly sewn on. They can be machined wash in cool water and allow to air dry.

Something different today.

Eight years ago on this day I was in a meeting when it happened. I will never forget how beautiful the day was with crystal blue skies, bright sunshine and warm weather. I was a principal of an elementary school and a brand new grandma. Terror seized me as I went out and gathered the children off the playground and walked through the school informing the teachers of the horror and our Governor's edict to close the schools early. I was thinking of all my children at school and 1 very small 9-month-old baby, my new grandson.

I visited every classroom to talk to the children to tell them they were going home early. They were cheering and I started to cry. They stopped and knew something was very wrong. I told them that they were safe, but that something had happened in New York and the Governor wanted everyone to be with their families.

That night, my whole family came together in our small living room. We did not watch television, but made dinner together and talked...talked.....talked.

The next day, I went again and visited every classroom to talk to them about what had happened. Studies were set aside that day as we got out our crayons, paper and drew American flags to decorate the windows and the hallways. Art therapy was very important in helping all of us cope with the unimaginable. I consoled teachers, children and not surprisingly, we circled the wagons and became a family- a special bond was created out of horror.

Each night for several months, I made crocheted red, white and blue bears that were sent to the children that lost a parent. I made over 200 bears- certainly not enough, but every bear was made with special prayer and helped me to heal.

Thank you for the sacrifice that was made 8 years ago by so many people. My prayers are with the families who lost loved ones on that horrible day. I will always remember the bravery shown by a plane full of people that decided their fate was going to be different then what terrorists had planned. You will always be remembered.

I fell in love with this bunny for so many reasons. First of all, she is just cute. Secondly, she was fun to knit. But most importantly, she has turned into the perfect diet buddy.

Next year we are planning a vacation by the sea and I am not ready to try on a bathing suit! I held tea parties with my king and queen bears and other stuffed animals as their loyal subjects. These toy mice brought back some very pleasant memories. They were so much fun to knit and create!

Hand knitted toys are perfect for celebrating any occasion. Each bear has its own personality and color work. I love to buy different types of yarn and make unique and sweet animals, just ready for adoption. Each bear is unique because I do not use a pattern. The yarn tells me which way to go.

This bear is just the right size for babies to hold on to and toddlers to hug. Little Blue Bear is about 8 inches tall and very pudgy! The features are hand embroidered so there are no loose parts. Remove the crocheted tie if given to a child under the age of 5. He is tightly knitted and the arms and legs are very tightly sewn on. No worries with cleaning because Little Blue Bear can be tossed in the washer and dryer- cool and gentle cycle.

One side of the doll is causal for daytime. With her lovely braids, she is ready for a picnic or day in the garden. Turn the doll over and you are ready for the evening. With her pearl beads and crocheted pearl flowers, she is ready for a fancy dinner or a night out at the theater.

Laura lost her father suddenly last year. She was devastated and barely coping with the tragedy when her mother passed away a few months later. Through all this sadness, she discovered that she was pregnant- twins- a boy and a girl.

The babies are almost ready to greet the world and Laura has consoled herself. The girl is a gift from dad and the boy is a gift from her mother. Her parents sent them to Laura from heaven.

I wanted to make something special for her upcoming baby shower, so I made a sweater with a special knitted bear for each of the babies. Each one was knitted with loving thoughts for two precious gifts.
